Thank you for our shared journey

As the academic year comes to a close, I would like to thank you all for the past year, as well as for the entire journey we have shared. It has been a rewarding and, in many ways, inspiring role that I have had the privilege to carry out alongside you. I will be retiring as of 1 September 2026, and at the same time Dr Marko Hakovirta (PhD) will take up the position of President and CEO.

Over the course of Metropolia’s history, we have experienced many different phases. We have built new things and also faced uncertainty. Change is a constant part of our work:people change, structures are renewed, and the world around us is continuously evolving.

At the same time, time and again we have shown that together we are able to move forward and find direction, even in a changing world. This gives us every reason to look ahead with confidence.

Amidst everything, the most important element has always been people. I have had the privilege of working with knowledgeable and committed colleagues, as well as curious and courageous students. It is in these encounters, collaborations and shared moments of insight that the driving force behind Metropolia is created. For these moments, I am deeply grateful.

Warm congratulations to all of you who are graduating. You will carry with you up-to-date expertise and a solution-oriented mindset into working life. Believe in your abilities and in your capacity to make a difference in the world around you.

My sincere thanks also go to our staff for this academic year, for your work and your dedication. Please continue your excellent work, and take care of one another and of your shared sense of community.

I wish you all a peaceful summer and enthusiasm for what lies ahead.
