From this page you can find information on payment of tuition fees, tuition fee exemption documents and enrollment for the academic year.

The tuition fees concern students who are not citizens of EU/EEA countries and who have started their studies in English-taught Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in August 2017 or after that.

The tuition fees must be paid for every academic term by the deadline announced by Metropolia. The student is obliged to pay the tuition fee for every academic term in which they are enrolled as attending.

Students continuing their studies will pay the tuition fee for the years following the first year separately for each academic term.

However, you may be exempted from paying the tuition fee e.g. based on your residence permit. The document exempting from the tuition fee must be valid on 1 August for studies starting in autumn term and on 1 January for studies starting in spring term.

The tuition fee for the autumn term (1 August–31 December) must be paid in advance during the previous academic term during the general period for registering for the next academic year, which is 1–31 May. Once the student has paid the tuition fee, they will be registered as attending for the entire academic year by Student Services. The due date for the payment is 31 May, 2026.

Documents for tuition fee exemption for spring term 2026

The document exempting the student from paying the tuition fee must be valid on 1 January 2026 for it to be considered valid for the spring term 2026.

Please send the exemption documents with the attachments via a specific link available at E-form (requires login with Metropolia credentials) by 15 December, 2025. A picture taken of the document is sufficient.

Documents for tuition fee exemption for autumn term 2026

The document exempting the student from paying the tuition fee must be valid on 1 August 2026 for it to be considered valid for the autumn term 2026.

Due to amendments in the Universities of Applied Sciences Act, there are changes to tuition fee exemptions from 1 December 2024 onwards:

From 1 December 2024 onwards in order to be exempted from the tuition fee at Metropolia, a student must deliver a copy of one of the following documents to Metropolia by the deadline:

1. Passport or identity card to indicate the citizenship of EU/EEA/Switzerland *)

2. Residence permit, which may be

EU Blue Card in Finland,
Continuous residence permit card in Finland (Type A permit) issued for purposes other than studies

Please note that, no exemption from the tuition fee cannot be granted to the student by Metropolia and the student is required to pay tuition fees if the student:

obtained their first residence permit in Finland based on studying
has a continuous residence permit (Type A permit) based on family ties in Finland, and their family member originally came to Finland on a residence permit granted for studying.

In the above mentioned events, the student is obligated to pay tuition fees, even in case they or their family member have later obtained a continuous residence permit (Type A permit) on other grounds.

*) Also citizens of Finland are required to provide proof of their citizenship by submitting a picture of a valid passport or the Finnish National Identity Card.

Important information on changes to tuition fee exemptions from 1 December 2024 onwards for students who are currently exempted from paying tuition fees based on a type A residence permit:

A student who has been exempted from tuition fees before 1 December 2024 will remain exempted at least until the residence permit in which the exemption is based on expires.

The student will remain exempted if:

The original exemption is confirmed by Metropolia by 31 December 2024.
The original residence permit is a type A residence permit and this residence permit expires.
The extended residence permit is issued on the same grounds as the original permit.
The student has applied for the extended residence permit before the original residence permit expires.

Please note that:

if there are gaps between the residence permits, student's obligation to pay the tuition fee will be reassessed
if the new residence permit is issued on different grounds than the original residence permit, the student’s obligation to pay the tuition fee will be reassessed

Enrollment for the academic year 2026-2027 and the payment of tuition fee

Students who are required to pay tuition fees will enroll for the academic year by paying the tuition fee. The tuition fee for the autumn term (1 August–31 December) must be paid in advance during the previous academic term during the general period for registering for the next academic year, which is 1–31 May. Once the student has paid the tuition fee, they will be registered as attending for the entire academic year by Student Services.

Enrollment for the academic year is obligatory for all degree students. If you want to enroll as absent, please contact Student Services by e-mail by May 31st.

If you do not pay your tuition fee by the deadline, you will lose your study right at Metropolia.

After mid-April the students will receive a Flywire payment link for the payment of tuition fees by email. The link will be sent by Student Services. The payment due date is May 31st.

NB! If the student has a residence permit exempting them from the tuition fee, the document proving this must be submitted to Student Services by the payment due date of May 31st.

Students exempted from tuition fees and enrollment for the academic year 2026-2027

If you have been exempted from paying the tuition fee based on a document that you have submitted before, you remain exempted until the document expires. Once your current residence permit expires you must submit the Student Services a new residence permit if you are still studying at Metropolia at the time.

To enroll for the academic year 2026-2027, please contact Student Services by e-mail by May 31, 2026 at the latest.

Delivering the documents for the tuition fee exemption and enrollment for the academic year

If you have a residence permit exempting from the tuition fee, you need to deliver the document proving this to Student Services via e-form (requires login with Metropolia credentials, link for the e-form will be provided soon) by the payment due date of May 31st. The document exempting from tuition fees must be valid on 1st August 2026 for it to be considered for the autumn term 2026. If your document exempting you from the tuition fee is not valid as required or you have not provided any exemption documents, you must pay the entire tuition fee.

Change of enrollment status for students who are required to pay tuition fees

Spring term attendance status can be changed between August 1 and December 15. Please contact Student Services by e-mail to receive further instructions.
