Plan your studies
As a university student, you are responsible for planning your studies and ensuring your academic progress.
By attending study guidance, you ensure that you receive all the important information related to your studies and student practices, helping your studies progress as smoothly as possible.
The starting point for planning your studies is the curriculum of your degree.
The curriculum defines certain constraints regarding the scope and content of the degree, such as the content, timing, and order of compulsory studies, as well as the amount of the elective courses.
The curriculum includes the degree structure as well as the contents, objectives, and prerequisite requirements of the courses.
Familiarize yourself with the curriculum at the beginning of your studies. You can find the curriculum in Metropolia’s Study Guide.
Degree programs have their own guidelines for recognising prior learning (RPL, fin. AHOT) and credit transfer. Read the instructions before filling a RPL application. The degree program provides information about the guidelines at the beginning of your studies.
Metropolia’s general guidelines can be found on the Accreditation of prior learning -page.
The curriculum and any recognized prior learning serve as the foundation for your personal study plan (PSP).
You can find your personal study plan in Metropolia's ePSP-service. You can log in to the ePSP-service using your Metropolia user accounts, which can be activated when your study rights begin (August 1 or January 1).
ePSP-service contains details such as approved personal study plan, recognized prior learning, completed courses, cross-institutional studies at partner universities, and course registration. However, not all courses or cross-institutional studies listed in ePSP-service are open for registration. For more details, see Course Offering and Registration Instructions.
You can also check your study progress and grades via the Tuudo app.
An approved ePSP -plan is a binding agreement, which can be updated within the limits of the curriculum and course offering. PSP is updated and approved depending on the degree program , for example, when a student begins major studies or returns after an absence. If returning from a period of absence, students must contact their degree program’s PSP advisor to update their study plan.
Your degree program will provide instructions on using ePSP-service and course registration instructions at the beginning of your studies.
Guidance for your Personal Study Plan
You can find information about PSP-guidance, PSP-advisors, and other study guidance on the Study Guidance page.

Your Degree Program's curriculum includes the Degree structure and compulsory courses. You can find the curriculum in Metropolia’s study guide.
The compulsory courses according to your study plan are in the ePSP service. The Degree Program will provide information about the semester’s course implementations, their scheduling by period, and enrollment instructions.
Elective courses are not in your ePSP. The Degree Program will provide information about available elective courses, Profile Studies in Working Life Skills (TOP-Studies), and enrollment instructions.
In some degree programmes, elective studies, Profile Studies in Working Life Skills (TOP-Studies), and Cross-Institutional Studies offered by other higher education institutions must be approved by the degree programme’s personal study plan (PSP) advisor before registration. Your degree programme will inform you at the beginning of your studies whether you need to have the courses approved before registering.
Course Search and Registration
Students can search for available courses and register for course implementations
- via Metropolia’s ePSP-service (course selection)
- through the Study Search on Tuudo and opintohaku.metropolia.fi
- or by other methods instructed by the degree programme. For example, in some Moodle online courses, students do not register via OMA but instead enroll directly in the course’s Moodle learning environment.
The Study Search service, introduced in August 2025, is available on the Tuudo mobile app and as a browser version at opintohaku.metropolia.fi.
Restrictions on Course Enrollment
Not all courses are open to enrollment. Some courses visible in Metropolia’s ePSP service and the Tuudo application and in the Study Search are restricted to certain programs or student groups.
Additionally, not all courses can necessarily be included in your degree.
In some degree programmes, elective studies, Profile Studies in Working Life Skills (TOP-Studies), and Cross-Institutional Studies offered by other higher education institutions must be approved by the degree programme’s personal study plan (PSP) advisor before registration. Degree programmes provide instructions at the beginning of the studies.
