Advisory Councils

The Advisory Councils develop degree programs. The councils consist of representatives from Metropolia, the working life, and student representatives.

Advisory councils

Each Metropolia degree program has an advisory council. These councils maintain links between working life and the University of Applied Sciences and act as experts in teaching within their field. The advisory councils discuss matters such as curriculum reforms and the needs of working life and whether the content of the degree programs meets these needs.

There are 43 advisory councils at Metropolia. They meet 1-4 times a year. The advisory councils consist of representatives of each degree program at Metropolia, representatives of working life, and student representatives. Student representatives are recruited annually in November for the coming calendar year. Any student studying in the degree program in question can apply to become a student representative. The selection is made by the Board of Student Union METKA in accordance with the Universities of Applied Sciences Act. Every year, there is also a secondary application round for the positions that were not filled in the initial application round. Read more about the application process on METKA’s website.

There are no eligibility requirements for student representatives. You are only required to be a student in that particular degree program that the advisory council represents. Many degree programs have their own advisory council, while some of them cover several degree programs. The role of the student representative is to bring the student perspective to the meetings.
