Safety and security guidelines
Action Instructions
Evacuation is guided by designated safety personnel and teachers for their respective groups.
Evacuate:
- via marked emergency exits
- to the designated assembly point
- Do not use elevators
Take with you:
- necessary clothing
If possible, close:
- windows, lights, doors, ventilation, and electrical devices
1. Rescue and Warn
- Rescue yourself and others in immediate danger
- Avoid inhaling smoke – it is toxic
2. Evacuate Safely
- Use the nearest exit – do not use elevators
- Go to the designated assembly point
- Help guide others out as well
3. Report the Fire
- Call the emergency number 112
- Provide: who you are, the exact location (address and floor), what is burning, and whether people are in danger
- Do not hang up the call without permission
- Also notify lobby services/security staff
4. Extinguish If You Can
- Use the nearest fire extinguisher – only if it is safe to do so
- Do not use water on electrical fires or liquid fires
- Aim the nozzle at the base of the flames, sweeping from bottom to top
- Stop extinguishing once the fire is out
5. Prevent the Fire from Spreading
- Close doors and windows
- Remove flammable materials from the area
- Protect important equipment from water damage
6. Guide the Fire Department
- Arrange for someone to meet and guide the firefighters
- Assist them if requested
If You Cannot Exit the Building
- Call 112 and give your exact location
- Move to a protected room
- Close doors and windows
- Block door gaps with clothing or other materials
- If there is smoke, breathe through a damp cloth if possible
1. Quickly assess the situation
- What has happened?
- Is the person conscious?
2. Call the emergency number 112
3. Start first aid
- Check if the person is breathing
- Act according to the situation
4. When making the emergency call, state:
- Who you are
- What has happened
- The address and floor
- When it happened
- How emergency responders will be guided to the scene
When encountering a threatening person:
- Protect yourself and assess the situation
- Call for help if needed – stay calm
- Do not provoke or respond to provocation
- Keep a safe distance, avoid staring or sudden movements
- Speak clearly and calmly, show empathy
- Keep your hands visible
- Do not turn your back
- Be flexible rather than rigid
- If the situation escalates: call 112, warn others, and protect yourself
Notice unusual or worrying behavior?
If someone threatens violence, glorifies violence, or talks about self-harm:
→ Discuss your concerns with staff
Receive a threat?
If a threat is made verbally, in writing, or online – whether personal or targeting Metropolia:
→ Contact staff immediately.
