EXAM room
EXAM is a software to be used for organizing electronic exams. The exam system provides a flexible way of taking monitored exams and maturity exams in Metropolia campuses. The system offers student the opportunity to take electronic exam at a time and location convenient to them. Students take the exam in an electronic exam room which is monitored by cameras.

EXAM instructions
- The teacher will inform the students if the exam takes place in the EXAM room.
- Read the EXAM instructions (below) and EXAM Regulations before the exam.
- Register for the examination in the EXAM system and book a time slot for taking the exam. You can book a time slot at the Metropolia exam room or at another university's exam room in another town. Remember to cancel or reschedule your reservation, if you are unable to take the exam at the designated time.
- Arrive at the campus shortly before the exam. Students in Myllypuro, Myyrmäki and Karamalmi can use their own access card to get to the exam room. Students at the Arabia campus must either register their access card at the campus registration desk or borrow one from the lobby services.
- Leave all your belongings outside the exam room. The lockers are provided next to the exam room. You need an RFID card (eg. HSL travel card, bank card, bonus card) to lock the locker.
- Enter the exam room on your booked timeslot. Please notice the exam room instructions and regulations. Take a note of the camera surveillance in the exam room.
- Take the exam.
- You will receive an automatic email when the teacher has assessed the exam.
- Log in to EXAM: exam.metropolia.fi. Select your university (Metropolia) in the Haka login window and then log in with your Metropolia username and password.
- During your first registration, you must accept the EXAM Terms and conditions. Read the regulations before the exam.
- You may change the language to English at the left hand side of the EXAM front page (EN).
- Find the exam you want to register for. You can search exams by course code, exam name or by examiner name.
- Register for the exam.
- Book an exam time.
- Take note: The exam period is the period when you can take the exam.
- Read the instructions
- Message to examiner: you can write a message to examiner but pay attention that the examiner sees the message when assessing the exam, not before the exam.
- Choose exam room. You can choose either a Metropolia exam room or an exam room at another university. If you want to take an exam in another university's exam room, see Exam Visit for more information. Choose a suitable time slot in the booking calendar.
- Confirm exam time.
- You will receive a confirmation email. Pay attention to the number of the computer (eg. Tenttikone 5), this is the computer you must use. You will see reservation details also in the EXAM system. Pay attention to the instructions.
Exam visit means that you can take your university exam in another organization's Exam room.
Booking time for exam visit:
- Sign in to Metropolia’s EXAM (exam.metropolia.fi) with your Metropolia user id and password.
- Find the exam you want to register for. You can search the exam by course code, exam name or by examiner name. Register for the exam.
- To book an exam time in another organization, select a room for exam visit.
- Choose the organization from the drop-down menu and choose the exam room.
- Choose a suitable time slot in the booking calendar and confirm exam time.
Before the exam visit, please read carefully another university’s exam instructions concerning opening hours, how to access the exam room and exam room guidelines. If specific software is used for the exam, make sure that the exam computers of the other university have the software in use.

If you are unable to attend the exam at the designated time, cancel or reschedule your reservation. Please cancel your reservation on time so that others can use it.
- Open your reservation in the EXAM-system
- Choose three dots on the right (…) and change registration.
- Arrive at the campus shortly before the exam. Students in Myllypuro, Myyrmäki and Karamalmi can use their own access card to get to the exam room. Students at the Arabia campus must either register their access card at the campus registration desk or borrow one from the lobby services.
- Check the confirmation email or your reservation details from the EXAM-system: Which room and which computer you have registered for. You can take the exam only using the right computer.
- Leave all your belongings outside the exam room (e.g. bag, mobile phone, headphones, smartwatches, outdoor clothes, calculator, food, drinks). The lockers are provided next to the exam room. You need a RFID card (eg. HSL travel card, bank card, bonus card) to lock the locker. You only need to take your student card or official ID and room access card into the actual exam room. Water may be taken into the exam room in a transparent bottle with no label.
- You must arrive at the campus early enough on the exam day as your exam starts immediately when your allocated time begins. You should enter the exam room approximately 5 minutes before the exam starting time, so that the previous examinee has time to finish.
- You will find instructions for taking the exam in the exam room. You may use paper and pencil, if you wish to make notes during the exam.
- The recording camera surveillance system in the exam room supervises you during the exam.
NOTICE
- Leave all your belongings outside the exam room.
- The only thing you are required to bring with you is your student ID card or official identification to verify your identity in case of random checks. Also the access card to the room is allowed.
- You are not allowed to leave the exam room and re-enter during the exam. You are allowed to leave the room after submitting or aborting your exam.
- Please notice that total silence is required in the exam room.
- The exam room is supervised by recording cameras.
- Please avoid strong fragrances.
Find the right computer and act accordingly:
- Open the Firefox web browser. Select your university (Metropolia University of Applied Sciences) in the Haka login window. Log in to the EXAM system with your Metropolia credentials.
If the computer has been left in a different view, you can return the view to the desktop view by closing the browser. You can also restart the computer if necessary.- Exam starts automatically when the booked time starts.
- If you are early, there will be a notification that the exam will start soon.
- If you try to start the exam on a wrong machine, there will be a notification and information about the right one.
- Read the instructions and answer the questions.
- In the exam room, you will find draft paper on which you can sketch your answer during the exam. Please put the draft papers in the data protection basket after the exam.
- The system saves the answers once in a minute. You can save the data also by clicking the Save‐button.
- All the computers include softwares Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Paint, Notepad, Notepad++, Calculator, Adobe Acrobat Reader, SPSS, Matlab and Mathcad. You will find the softwares at the computer's desktop.
- During the exam, you might need to use additional softwares. Open the software from the desktop, do the task and save the file on the desktop. Note: Include the file in your exam answer!
- The teacher can also add an attachment into the exam. Open the attachment and it will open either to a new tab in the browser, or as an image file or to Microsoft Office-software (Word, Excel or Powerpoint) depending on the file form.
- Check the remaining time on the right corner.
- Hand in your exam by clicking ”Save and return the exam”.
- Close the browser.
- Finally, click the "Finish exam" icon on the desktop. The computer will then restart itself for the next exam.
- Aborting the exam and in case of a problem
- If you need to abort the exam, choose ”Abort exam”. An aborted exam will not be marked.
- In case of a problem (e.g. technical problem, fire alarm, disturbance), abort the exam and leave the room. Report the problem by email exam [at] metropolia.fi (exam[at]metropolia[dot]fi).
If for any technical reason you cannot start the exam or are booted out of the system or if you experience any other form of disturbance in the exam room (for example a fire alarm), you should end the exam, leave the exam room and report the problem.

Problem concerning the exam questions: the examiner

- Check the exam feedback, grade and scores choosing Show feedback
A practice exam has been created for students, making it easy to familiarize themselves with and practice taking the exam in the exam room before the actual exam. The practice exam is called "Tutustu EXAM-tenttiin". The exam questions are in Finnish. The exam includes all different types of questions.
Log in to EXAM and search the exam using the exam name. Book an exam time. Take the practice exam in the exam room. You can do it at your leisure, answer different questions, practice opening an exam attachment or adding your own. You can take the exam in full or in part. If you need more time for taking the exam, contact the examiner before the exam.
If you use a wheel chair: the exam room is accessible and the workstations are provided with an electrically adjustable desk.
The exam rooms have hearing protectors that can be borrowed (2 pcs/space) and disposable earplugs.
