Individual Study Arrangements
If you require support in your studies due to learning difficulties, sensory disabilities and impairment or any other reason, you may apply for Individual Study Arrangements. Metropolia UAS offers guidance on how to apply. Your Special Educational Teacher will assist you with your application if needed.
At Metropolia, you can receive individual support for your studies if you have an identified need for support or if such a need emerges during your studies. You can discuss this with a special education teacher (MErkka), who will help you:
- identify your support needs and strengths
- apply for individual study arrangements
- address questions related to learning difficulties.
You may also discuss screenings for reading/writing (dyslexia) and mathematics with your special education teacher.
At Metropolia, sufficient exam time is guaranteed for all students, so you do not need to apply separately for extra time in exams.
How to apply for Individual Study Arrangements?
If you have any earlier documents on e.g. dyslexia, please have them at hand. When requested, email them to your Special Educational Teacher using Metropolia email only.
Contact your Special Educational Teacher by Metropolia email. Please note that we are not able to reply to emails from any other email address.
Your Special Educational Teacher replies to you when they are working with these duties. Please note that our Special Educational Teachers have varied other duties and they necessarily do not work with Individual Study Arrangements each day.
Appointments are held on the campus or remotely, as agreed. Appointments take 20-60 minutes.
Please be on time and cancel your appointment if you can’t make it. On campus, please check in the room in your Metropolia email or calendar.
Remotely, be sure there are no other people listening.
Prepare to present your earlier documents, if you have any.
Your Special Educational Teacher will give you the application form and help you with it if needed. Submit a signed application to your Special Educational Teacher by Metropolia email.
Your Special Educational Teacher submits to you the Individual Study Arrangements Plan approved by your Head of School. In the Individual Study Arrangements Plan includes
Contact the teacher responsible for the study unit no later than in the beginning of the study unit. Discuss how your Individual Study Arrangements Plan will be implemented.
Please note that all Individual Study Arrangements will not necessarily be implemented. Discussing things in an open manner with your teacher is the best way to find suitable solutions. If you consider you weren’t heard enough, you may contact your Special Educational Teacher.

Your Special Educational Teacher does not share any details on the student.
Your Individual Study Arrangements may be updated if necessary.
