Changing your degree programme

It is possible to transfer from one degree programme to another within Metropolia, provided that the degree title remains the same. If the degree title will change please apply via Studyinfo.

Transfer from one degree programme to another should not be applied for in these situations:

• Students may apply for a transfer within their degree programme from a professional major subject, specialisation option or form of implementation (e.g. from daytime studies to multiform studies) to another. The head of degree programme decides on the change of professional major subject or specialisation option.
• In the case of dual degrees in the School of Health Care and Social Services, the degree title may change (from paramedic, public-health nurse or midwife to registered nurse). The decision is made by the head of degree programme.

A transfer from one degree programme to another can be approved if:

1. the student has a valid right to study at Metropolia, and
2. there is a study place available in the new degree programme, and
3. a personal study plan can be prepared so as to accommodate the completion of studies within the maximum study period, and
4. the applicant attends an interview and/or possible tests arranged by the degree programme, if this is required.

The maximum study period is calculated from the date on which the student accepted the study place in the original degree programme.

Application

Applications for transferring from one degree programme to another must be made using the application form. The form is available during application time. The application with grounds must be made during application period. Student and Admission Services will attach the transcript of records to the application. Student can make one application during the application period.

Application periods:

• 1 - 15 May (for studies beginning in the autumn)
• 1 - 15 November (for studies beginning in the spring)

Student selection

The student selection decision is made by the Head of the degree programme. The decision will be sent to the applicant by email. If the application is accepted Student and Admission Services will send by email the acceptance of study place form. Form must be returned within the given deadline by email studentservices [at] metropolia.fi (studentservices[at]metropolia[dot]fi). If the new study place is not accepted by the given deadline, the study place will be withdrawn.

The results of the student selection will be published by:

• 30 June (for studies beginning in the autumn)
• 15 December (for studies beginning in the spring)

The study place must be accepted by:

• 31 July (for studies beginning in the autumn)
• 31 December (for studies beginning in the spring)

Student may appeal written about the student selection decision to the Metropolia´s Legal Protection Committee. Appeal period is 14 days. Appeal period will start notice of the decision.
