Using email at Metropolia

• Use your Metropolia email address for all communication related to your studies at Metropolia.
• Check your email frequently enough!
• Do not use external (non-Metropolia) email addresses for studies or other participation in the university of applied sciences community.

How do I access my email?

Metropolia uses Microsoft Exchange email. Go to the Outlook Web App at http://mail.metropolia.fi and log in to Outlook Web App using your Metropolia user ID.

Email Addresses

Both student and staff email addresses follow the format firstname.lastname [at] metropolia.fi (firstname[dot]lastname[at]metropolia[dot]fi). If there are multiple people with the same name at Metropolia, a number is usually added to the end of the name. You can find email addresses in PeopleFinder. 

Confidential Messages and Secure Email

Confidential and sensitive personal data should not be transmitted by e-mail or any other form of data transmission over a network without encryption. Metropolia's internal e-mail traffic (when you send a message from an e-mail address ending in @ metropolia.fi to another e-mail address ending in @ metropolia.fi) is already basically encrypted.

A user has the right to encrypt his or her email messages with Metropolias secure-email function, which is a tool accepted by Metropolia IT-services.
