Peer Support Groups Open to All Students at Metropolia – Spring 2026
Peer groups to support studies for a Metropolia students – welcome to join the group activities offered by Student Wellbeing Services!
Would you like more support for your studies, new perspectives on managing everyday life, or peer support from fellow students?
Metropolia Student Wellbeing Services regularly organizes various groups where you can support your study ability, study skills, and overall wellbeing in a safe and encouraging atmosphere.
What do the groups offer?
- Practical tips to make studying smoother
- Tools for time management and stress management
- Opportunities to share experiences and receive peer support
- Guidance and inspiration from student wellbeing professionals
Who are the groups for?
For all Metropolia students – whether you’re just starting your studies, close to graduation, or simply in need of some extra energy in your daily life.
Choose the group that best fits your needs. Please note that some groups are in Finnish.
How to join?
Groups are organized during the semester on different themes.

Getting a Grip on University Studies Group
Do you need support in honing your study skills? Do you struggle with exam preparation or getting started with assignments? This group helps you strengthen useful academic skills and find a study approach that supports your wellbeing.
Implementation 1 - in Finnish
- When: Thursday mornings at 9.15-11.00 online, 4 sessions: 12.2., 26.2., 5.3. ja 19.3.
Getting a Grip on Your Final Thesis Group - In Finnish
Peer support for overcoming thesis roadblocks
Does working on your thesis feel difficult or lonely? Do you need support with scheduling and making progress? Maybe you’ve fallen behind your thesis group, or the whole process just feels overwhelming? You’re not alone.
The getting grip on your thesis peer support group is here to help with exactly these challenges. In the group, you will:
- Receive peer support from others in the same situation.
- Meet regularly four times via Zoom.
- Get tips on time management, staying motivated, and dealing with emotions.
- Work in small groups to set concrete interim goals and follow up on your progress.
Session themes:
- Getting to know each other, introducing thesis topics, and group guidelines
- Thesis anxiety – how to cope with the emotions around your thesis?
- Procrastination – less stalling, more action!
- Self-compassion and strengths – Yes, you can do this!
Important information:
- The group is multidisciplinary and does not replace the actual academic supervision or provide direct content guidance for your thesis.
- The group is best suited for those who are already in the writing phase of their thesis.
- Active participation in discussions and small group work, as well as a functioning microphone and camera, are required.
- The group is organized by Metropolia’s student wellbeing services.
- Guided by Study Psychologist Emmi Arponen and Study Counsellor Maria Sukselainen.

Getting a grip on your thesis Group
February 24, 2026 – April 7, 2026 (Tuesdays 9:00–10:00, via Zoom)
Session dates: 24.2., 10.3., 24.3., 7.4. (Note: On March 10, the time is exceptionally 8:30–10:00 due to Student Mental Health Week program.)
Focus Corners on Teams - in Finnish
Are you a master procrastinator? Is your mind wandering distractingly? Do you find it hard to focus on studying, independent tasks, or lectures? Yes? No worries, you’re not alone! You are warmly welcome to join the low-threshold Focus Corners organised online during the spring semester! These corners are held in Finnish, but you can join to practice Finnish and study at the same time.
Focus Corners start with a brief introduction, followed by time for discussion or getting started on your own study tasks. Let’s take the hardest step together!
Focus Corners will be held on Teams this spring semester on the following dates:

- 15 Apr 2026, 15:00–16:00 Time thieves, facilitator: Study Psychologist Noora Mononen
No advance registration is required. You can join each session on Teams or drop in for a topic that interests you. You don’t need to speak or turn on your microphone if you don’t want to—you’re welcome to just listen in as well.

Final Thesis Corner
Welcome to Thesis Corner - in Finnish!
Is your thesis on your mind, but motivation missing or the process otherwise stuck? Do you need tips on returning to your thesis, scheduling, or writing?
Metropolia’s new Thesis Corner is a low-threshold support workshop led by a study psychologist. It offers peer support, productivity tips, and inspiring activities for students at all stages of their thesis process. Thesis corners are held in Finnish, you are willing to join if you study in English, but main content is in Finnish. In spring 2026, Thesis Corner will visit every Metropolia campus:

- Myyrmäki: 18 Mar 2026, 12:00–14:00, MMA104

What happens at Thesis Corner?
- Discussion with fellow students who visit Thesis Corner
- Short info sessions about different phases of thesis work, motivation, time management, and overcoming blocks
- Opportunity to work independently on your own thesis tasks in the company of others, in a shared space
You can join for as long as suits you—whether you’re just starting your thesis or putting the final touches on your report. You’re welcome to visit one or several Thesis Corner sessions. No pre-registration required. Thesis Corner is facilitated by staff from Student Wellbeing Services.

Math Corner
Is math giving you a hard time?
Welcome to Math Corner if you want to talk about math or need some extra support. Math Corner is facilitated by Special Education Teacher Tero Kärkkäinen. There are usually other students present as well. You can drop by for a short or longer visit.
Math Corner will tour the libraries on Metropolia campuses in winter and spring 2026:
- Mondays 11:00–13:00 Karamalmi
- Tuesdays 11:00–13:00 Myyrmäki
- Wednesdays 11:00–13:00 Arabia
- Thursdays 11:00–15:00 Myllypuro

Tailored Math Workshops for Groups
Tailored math workshops can be arranged for groups based on specific fields or topics. For example, workshops can cover medication calculations, business mathematics assignments, or other themes.
Math workshops can be held in Finnish and English.
