Work placement abroad
Start by familiarising yourself with the placement instructions of your degree programme and proceed to searching for suitable placements. Once you have found interesting positions, agree the contents and practicalities including the timing with your placement contact person from your degree programme.

- A work placement completed abroad will be part of the degree completed at Metropolia.
- For all placements completed abroad, the student must draft a Placement Contract (Learning Agreement for Traineeship/Placement, LA), which must be approved by the degree programme and the placement organization before the placement period begins.
- Check the general security situation in a country or region you are seeking placements from The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' travel bulleting. If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not recommend traveling to the planned destination country, the placement is not possible in that country or region.
- The student follows the given instructions, is responsible for all arrangements and costs related to the placement.
- Incase you apply for a placement in one of Metropolia´s partner universities, please follow the student exchange process.
- Additionally, the student must:
- Follow the instructions and principles of the exchange programme.
- Complete the tasks agreed upon in the Placement contract.
- Behave respectfully towards the customs and culture of the host country and follow the rules of the placement organization.
- Consider the holidays of Metropolia's teaching staff (it is not possible to get internships approved during holidays).
Tips for searching a placement organisation abroad
Students find work placements independently through their own contacts and search. However, please check the placement portals for information, see the degree programme information channels and join work placement information sessions. In this page you can also find useful links for searching the work placement organisation.
Things to consider:
- The degree programme must approve the placement, the length, the content and goals of the exchange period
- Please check the general guidelines for work placements from your study filed/degree programme.
- The duration of the placement affects the grants (short placement 2 - 59 days / long-term placement min. 60 days, max. length of the compulsory work placement in the curriculum)
- The placement should be full time and min. 5 credits/month
- Study the visa/residenece permit guidelines for the country in questions and check the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs travel notifications
Preparing the application for placement
Since your CV and application give the organization the first impression of you it is vital that the content corresponds to local customs. Great attention to grammar and format should be given. A European format of a CV Europass can be helpful.
