Peak Times in Exam Rooms – Tips for Avoiding Congestion

EXAM rooms were congested at the end of the autumn semester in December and at the turn of study periods in mid‑March. Here are some tips to avoid congestion:

  • Book your exam time well in advance before the exam period begins. If you try to book an exam slot during the exam period or in its final days, there may not be any available times.
  • If you are unable to take the exam at your reserved time, cancel your booking so that slots become available for other students. For example, over a hundred students were left without an examination time in March because people who did not attend had not cancelled their reservations.
  • Make use of both the Myllypuro and Myyrmäki EXAM rooms or exam facilities at other higher education institutions. You are free to choose which exam room you book!

Always Have an Official ID with You in EXAM Rooms

Extra spot checks will be carried out in the EXAM rooms in the spring. The personnel carrying out the spot checks will make sure that everyone taking an exam follows the EXAM regulations. Thus, always remember to bring an official ID with you!

Remember: no belongings are allowed in the EXAM room. The allowed items are: an official ID, the access card for the room, and the locker key card.

You may also take water in a transparent, unlabeled bottle, and your own pen for drafting exam answers in the EXAM room. Draft paper is available in the rooms.

Cheating and Violations of Regulations

Violations of EXAM regulations and suspected cheating have been reported in EXAM rooms. We wish to remind students of the EXAM regulations and of ethical examination practices:

  • EXAM examinations are supervised assessment situations. Supervision is carried out using recording video surveillance, access control, and spot checks in the exam rooms.
  • Cheating in all exams is prohibited.
  • Any activity that violates the EXAM regulations is grounds for failing an examination and for removing the student from the EXAM room. The EXAM regulations have been updated—please read them carefully!
  • Cases of cheating are handled with the student, the examiner, and the head of degree programme. Serious cheating cases are handled by the Board of Examiners. Cheating is processed in accordance with section 2.1.3 Misconduct of the guidelines on rectification of course performance, disciplinary matters, and the Board of Examiners. Confirmed cheating will result in the examination being failed. In serious cases, additional consequences may include a written warning or temporary suspension.
  • The purpose of exams is for you to demonstrate your own competence, not anyone else’s. You are studying for yourself and your own future, and it matters that you personally master the subject matter.

Examinations Will Start on the Hour Every Hour in EXAM Rooms

Starting from week 16, examinations in the EXAM rooms will begin on the hour, every hour. This allows you to book a suitable exam time more flexibly via the EXAM booking calendar. When entering the EXAM room, please think about other students who may already be taking their exams and come in quietly.

Hearing Protectors Available in EXAM Rooms

Hearing protectors are available in the Myllypuro and Myyrmäki exam rooms (5 pairs per room). Please clean the hearing protectors after use. Disposable earplugs are no longer available in the EXAM rooms.

If You Wish to Draft Your Answer on Paper, Bring Your Own Pen/Pencil

Pencils are no longer provided in EXAM rooms.  If you wish to draft your answer on paper, bring your own pen or pencil. Paper will be available in the rooms also in the future. Additionally, the EXAM computer has Notepad and Word, which you can use to draft your answers.

Individual Arrangements in EXAM

You may be granted individual arrangements for EXAM if a plan for individual arrangements has been prepared for you. If you require individual arrangements during your studies, please contact the special education teacher for your degree programme. Individual arrangements for EXAM exams are agreed upon separately for each exam. See more information on individual arrangements in the student EXAM instructions
