Grants for work placement abroad
- The grant is a travel grant that requires physical travel to the placement location. The placement cannot take place in the country of your current residence.
- The grant depends on the length of the placement period, credits awarded, and host country.
- Please note that you cannot receive funding from more than one source for a single work placement (eg. Metropolia grant, EU- or Finnish National for Education (EDUFI) funded programmes).
- You can receive Erasmus+ funding even if you receive salary or other perks during the placement. Metropolia informs Finnish Tax authorities about grantees and sums.
It is your responsibility to cover and check all costs for the placement abroad such as accommodation and living, travel, supervision fees, insurance, visa and vaccinations, all other costs.
You will apply for the grant at the same time as you prepare the Learning Agreement for Traineeship/Placement in the Mobility-Online system.
The Erasmus+ and Metropolia mobility grants for student exchange (60-360 days) and work placement (60-180 days) are paid in two installments:
before the mobility: [the total sum of all the days] - 10 days
after the mobility: the remaining 10 days. The 2nd payment is made only after the student has returned all the required documents to Metropolia after the study/placement period within the specified deadline.
- Fall semester exchanges finished by 30 April
- Spring semester and full year exchanges finished by 30 September.
The grant is paid based on the official dates of the study/placement period. If the dates change by more than five days, the total grant sum, and consequently the final payment, will change. Grants are paid only for the physical stay at the exchange destination.
Conditions for the grant
- The placement is part of the curriculum.
- Learning Agreement for Traineeship / Work Placement (LA) signed by the student, degree programme and placement organisation is uploaded to Mobility-Online before the placement begins.
- Long-term placements: Full-time working hours (min. 5 ECTS/month).
- Placement will be completed physically in the host country
The grant or a part of the grant must be returned if the placement is cancelled, the student returns from the placement earlier than agreed or the student has given false information in the Learning Agreement for Traineeship/Placement. Any changes to the placement period must be immediately reported to the International Adviser in your field of study.
