First-year student, please complete the HealthStart questionnaire in YTHSDigi

If you started completing your first degree at an institution of higher education in the autumn semester 2026, you can now complete the HealthStart questionnaire in YTHSDigi. After completing the HealthStart questionnaire, you’ll receive feedback on your state of health and may be referred to health promotion services provided by the FSHS.

The health examination for first-year students begins with the HealthStart questionnaire, the aim of which is to help you and healthcare professionals check your health status and refer you to the appropriate services as early as possible at the beginning of your studies.

The HealthStart questionnaire examines your physical, mental and social health, as well as the key aspects of your health behavior and factors affecting your health, health behavior and ability to study.

Small Changes for Good Health – student well-being week is held from 28 September to 2 October 2026

This year’s theme focuses on the role of personal choices in promoting health – and how they are influenced by both external support and the realities of everyday life. The week’s programme includes the following events:

  • Webinar on Tuesday 29 September 2026, 2 pm to 3 pm, held in English: Information session for international students
In this online session, which is especially intended for international students, questions will be answered by FSHS Public Health Nurse Hanna-Mari Smale and psychiatric nurse Minna Tuomaala. Ask anything health-related, but please keep it general so other participants can also benefit from the advice! Do not share detailed accounts about your own personal health, either.

  • Thursday 1 October 2026, 2 pm to 3 pm, held in Finnish: Webinar on alcohol and other intoxicant use

How are substances reflected in today’s student culture? What kinds of meanings are attached to them from the perspectives of community, wellbeing, study ability, and leisure time? And what does a mindful, wellbeing-supportive relationship with substances look like?

Speakers include addiction medicine specialist Kaarlo Simojoki and student representatives Aada Aho (National Union of University Students in Finland) and Laura Laakso (SAMOK, the Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences).
