Study Skills Corners – support, connection, and clarity for your studies

Would you like more clarity in your everyday studying, company for independent work, or concrete tips for things like time management, mathematics, or your thesis? Metropolia’s Study Skills Corners offer low-threshold spaces where you don’t have to struggle with your studies alone.

In the Corners, you can:

  • ask for advice and talk with the facilitators
  • work on your own assignments in a calm, encouraging atmosphere
  • gain new perspectives and practical tools for studying
  • meet other students who face similar challenges

There are several themed Corners to choose from, including:

  • Study Corner – everyday study skills, planning, and keeping your studies moving forward
    • on Mondays and Thursdays, on campuses and online, 3 Sept–17 Dec
    • in Finnish
  • Focus Corner – concentration, energy levels, procrastination, and time management
    • on Tuesdays and Thursdays, online, 8 Sept–10 Dec
    • in Finnish and English
  • Math Corner – support with math assignments and encouragement for studying mathematics
    • Mon–Thu, rotating across all campuses, 24 Aug–17 Dec
    • in Finnish and English
  • Thesis Corner – help and clarity for the different stages of your thesis
    • on campuses, 23 Sept–2 Dec
    • in Finnish
  • “Turning Your Direction into an Image” – creative workshop for exploring your future and your own goals
    • on campuses, 1 Oct–2 Dec
    • in Finnish

Language: Every student is welcome to every Corner, regardless of language. Corner activities are facilitated in Finnish, but you are welcome to join to practise Finnish, and we can support you in English when needed. Independent work during the Corner is possible in all languages. During independent work phases, you are free to work in your own study language (e.g. in English), even if the Corner itself is run in Finnish.

You can take part:

  • whenever it suits your schedule
  • in just one specific theme or by joining the Corners regularly
  • by simply listening or by taking part in the discussions – speaking is not required
  • in many sessions online (e.g. via Zoom), so you can join from home or from a quiet space on campus

The Corners are facilitated by staff from the Study Wellbeing Services, who are familiar with common study challenges and can help you find solutions that work for you. The Corners are open to all Metropolia students, regardless of your field of study or where you are in your studies.

You can find up-to-date information about the different Corners, schedules, and participation links on the website:
