Metropolia’s HyMy Village to Support Urhea’s Elite Athletes Through New Agreement
HyMy Village, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences’ health and wellbeing services hub, and Metropolitan Sports Academy Urhea have signed a cooperation agreement. The agreement complements Athlete’s Metropolia, a service offering through which Metropolia supports competitive and elite athletes in combining their studies with their athletic careers.
The cooperation agreement covers services provided at HyMy Village, both as part of teaching and as specialist services. These include running analyses, performance profiling, knee rehabilitation monitoring, isokinetic strength testing and group measurements conducted in the Movement Laboratory, as well as other HyMy Village services, such as oral health examinations.
HyMy Village’s services provide athletes, coaches and physiotherapists with information to support training, technique development and rehabilitation, as well as to help identify potential risk factors.
Cooperation strenghtens Metropolia’s commitment to elite athletes
“Metropolia wants to be a higher education institution that genuinely supports elite athletes and makes the most of its own strengths and cooperation networks. We not only help competitive athletes combine their studies with their sporting careers, but can also provide services that support performance, health, wellbeing and rehabilitation at HyMy Village and in our Movement Laboratory,” says Heidi Stenberg, Director of the School of Rehabilitation and Examination at Metropolia.
The Finnish Olympic Committee has awarded Metropolia University of Applied Sciences the official certificate for an Elite Athlete Friendly University. The certificate was awarded in 2025 to recognise Metropolia’s commitment to supporting athletes’ dual careers — combining high-performance sport with higher education — in cooperation with Sports Academy. When awarding the certificate, the Finnish Olympic Committee specifically praised HyMy Village’s diverse services supporting athletes’ training and wellbeing, as well as its high-quality Movement Laboratory. The newly signed agreement will enable HyMy Village’s services to be used more extensively to support elite athletes’ training and performance.
“The cooperation between Metropolia’s HyMy Village and Urhea is an important step for Urhea as we seek to strengthen our partnerships with higher education institutions and provide athletes and coaches with more services and scientific support in their everyday work. HyMy Village’s services can benefit both the thousands of young athletes involved in sports academy activities and Finland’s top elite athletes training at the National Olympic Training Centre Helsinki. We are particularly interested in collecting more data through research and testing to support the coaching of our elite athletes,” says Simo Tarvonen, CEO of Urhea.
