Lease agreement for Karamalmi campus extended until 2035

Metropolia has reached an agreement with Nokia to extend the lease for its Karamalmi campus. The lease will remain valid until the end of August 2035. This long-term agreement ensures continuity for staff and students and supports long-term planning of operations.

The Karamalmi campus hosts degree programmes in ICT and Industrial Management. From August 2026 onwards, these programmes will be taught exclusively at the Karamalmi and Myyrmäki campuses, with teaching at the Myllypuro campus coming to an end. There will be space freed up at Myyrmäki, as the Business Administration studies will move from Myyrmäki to Myllypuro.

Metropolia also plans to invest in improving the campus’s AV equipment and overall comfort.

“It’s great that the lease extension has now been confirmed. We can also continue developing the campus further. Together with staff and students, we’ve been envisioning what our ideal IT campus would look like and how we can showcase our expertise on site,” says Janne Salonen, Director of school, ICT and Industrial Management.

“METKA is also pleased that the lease has been extended. A long-term lease allows us to invest in the campus’s comfort, which is much needed. This brings certainty for METKA and the student associations operating at Karamalmi, enabling them to continue their activities and invest in campus life,” says Justus Kalliokoski, Chair of METKA’s Board.

The landlord, Nokia, is also one of Metropolia’s partners in working life, with a wide range of collaborative activities.

“We’re also very happy with the location next to Nokia, as it has enabled a fruitful partnership. Students get to meet professionals from their field and build valuable networks,” Salonen adds.
