Focused and Other tabs are being turned off in Outlook — check for overlooked messages
Metropolia has turned off Outlook’s automatic Focused and Other sorting by default for staff and students. After the change, messages in your Inbox appear in a single list.
What to do
- Refresh your Outlook view. If you use Outlook in a browser, refresh the page. If you use the Outlook desktop app (Classic), close and reopen it.
- Check the unread messages in your Inbox. You may have overlooked emails if you have only checked the Focused tab.
What does this sorting do?
Outlook may have divided your Inbox into two tabs: Focused and Other. These appear above the message list in both the Outlook desktop app (Classic) and Outlook on the web.
Outlook automatically decides which tab to use for each message. A message that matters to you may have ended up on the Other tab.
Would you like to keep using Focused Inbox?
You can turn the feature back on for yourself. First, familiarise yourself with how it works, and remember to check both tabs.
Microsoft’s English instructions: using Focused Inbox
Select Classic Outlook in the instructions if you use the Outlook desktop app (Classic), or Web if you use Outlook in a browser.
