OMA update bulletin

To start, here are the three most important fixes/developments:

  • Reminders for students about semester registration
  • Editing options for PSP (Personal Study Plan) for students in fee-based education
  • A new "lead" field for course units and registration targets

These updates will make your everyday life easier, whether you are a student planning your studies or a teacher engaged in teaching work.

The most important improvements for students, teachers, and planners

1. Student desktop, PSP, and study planning

The use of the personal study plan (PSP) is now more consistent than before.

The most significant fixes and improvements:

  • Semester registration reminders: A new portlet has been added to the student's desktop that reminds the student if semester registration is missing as the deadline approaches. An automatic email is also sent.
  • Structure of Offering is preserved: When a Separate Study Module (Offering) is added to the PSP via the study search, its hierarchical structure (groupings and course units) is preserved intact.
  • Order of studies is preserved: The course units retrieved for the PSP within a study module are displayed in the same order as in the curriculum.
  • Rearranging course schedules works: On the Scheduling tab, a previously scheduled course can now be moved to another time by dragging, without it disappearing from the timeline.
  • Electronic transfer of Emrex study attainments corrected to work for students who have changed their names.
  • Limitation on cross-institutional offerings: Registrations can now be limited by type of education to only apply to cross-institutional offerings, when a restricting alias has been set (case: Open UAS pathway students).

2. Teacher desktop, registrations, assessment, and management of attainments

Teachers' tools for processing attainments have become more stable and faster.

The most significant fixes and improvements:

  • PSP editing for fee-based education: In the PSP of students in fee-based education, the same editing options are now available on the "Choice of Studies" and "Arrangement" tabs as for degree students.
  • Selecting and placing teaching groups in implementations is fixed to also work in cases where teaching groups have had to be removed.
  • Automatic messages for implementations always work: The "automatic messages" tab for an implementation now works even if no separate registration period has been set for the implementation.
  • When a teacher adds a student to an implementation, the student's name, student number, degree program, and the student's type of education (new) are displayed.
  • Assessment language menu fixed: The teaching and attainment languages for an implementation now display correctly in the assessment view menu, including cases where the language is not a system language (FI/EN/SV).
  • Default attainment date works: The function for default attainment date now takes into account the date set by the teacher, making it easier to assess students with an "absent" status.
  • Updating information is faster: Changes made to a student's study right (e.g., specializations and qualifications) are now updated to the search index immediately. Thus, they are visible in reports (such as the degree certificate) without delay.
  • Special characters allowed in thesis: The characters < and > are now permitted in the thesis title without breaking the text.
  • Transferring attainments: When an attainment is transferred to another study right, the related implementation registration is also correctly transferred to the target study right.
  • Implementation reports supplemented: In the "Registrations" and "Assessment" views for an implementation, there is a new report called "Activity Table" for tracking student participation. The "Students of Implementation" report now also displays the teaching groups for the implementation.

3. Room reservations and resources (Ressu)

Searching for and managing room bookings has been improved.

The most significant fixes and improvements:

  • Searching for available rooms in recurring bookings: In the “Find suitable room” function, you can now search for available rooms for each recurrence separately with the option “Room is available at least at one of the selected reservation times” and choose different resources for each recurrence during bulk creation and editing of reservations.
  • Search according to own rights: In the “Find suitable room” function, the default selection is now “I have booking rights to the room”, so only rooms for which the user has booking rights are shown in the search results. The user can deselect this if they wish to see all available rooms.
  • Booking restrictions are respected in searches: In the “Find suitable room” search, room booking restrictions are now also taken into account when searching based on booking rights.
  • Templates: support for multiple rooms: You can now save several rooms to a reservation template (both in report and personal desktop views), in terms of timing and room preferences.
  • External reservations visible: Information for external room reservations now shows correctly in the student’s implementation view.

4. Planner desktop, course units, and implementations creation and management

Planners’ tools have been improved, especially for copying and transferring information.

The most significant fixes and improvements:

  • A new lead field in the description information for course units and registration targets.
  • Mass copying of implementations fixed: Implementations are now copied to the curriculum selected in the "Set curriculum for copies" field. Also, sorting of search results in mass copying has been fixed.
  • Ensured copying of implementation information: When implementations are copied, all necessary information such as classifications, resources, and cost centers are now reliably copied (for both mass and individual copies).
  • EOK saved correctly: When an implementation is created of a study unit for an EOK, the information is saved correctly to the "Separate study module" field for the implementation, and not erroneously to the curriculum field.
  • Groups taking effect in the future now display correctly in, for example, the study guide and in PSP under implementation information.

5. Data protection and performance

Critical improvements have been made to system stability and security.

The most significant fixes and improvements:

  • PSP guidance speed: The PSP guidance view on the teacher's desktop has been optimized, greatly speeding up view loading, especially for teachers with many students under guidance.
  • Indexing process optimization: Major changes were made in the background to reduce memory consumption in Opensearch indexing and to speed up index creation, thereby improving overall system stability.
