Celebrating the year's achievements

As the year draws to a close, our Metropolia community has once again dedicated great effort to both our work and our studies. In our day-to-day lives, it is all too easy to focus on challenges and unfinished matters. That’s why it’s important to pause and actively reflect on what we have achieved together. Now, as Christmas approaches, giving and receiving compliments and thanks is also a wonderful intangible gift.

I have listed here just a few of our many successes from the past year. Successes don’t happen by chance; they speak to the expertise of the Metropolia community and our courage to try new things.

  • Metropolia students have received several prestigious recognitions and awards throughout the year.
  • The student team from Metropolia’s Robo Garage won the Amazing Robots competition.
  • The Finnish Olympic Committee has awarded Metropolia a quality label, making Metropolia officially a higher education institution that supports elite athletes.
  • International cooperation has expanded: new degree programmes have launched in China and Vietnam.
  • The model for functionally bilingual education (TOKAKO), first implemented in social and health care studies, has now been extended to other fields at Metropolia. The model has attracted interest from other higher education institutions, both in Finland and internationally.
  • Helsinki XR Center was recognised as a European pioneer in emerging technologies.
  • We have received significant new funding decisions for our research, development, and innovation activities.

Additionally, as the year ends, many people are finishing up their studies. Warmest congratulations to all those graduating now or who have already graduated!

Taking care of ourselves and each other

The dark time of year and the approaching Christmas holidays offer an excellent opportunity to slow down and prioritise well-being. Take care of yourself and those close to you. Step away from the daily routine, enjoy some rest and be inspired – whether that means spending time in nature, enjoying culture or simply having some quiet moments.

A heartfelt thank you to our entire community for the past year. Together, we are making Metropolia a place where learning, research and community spirit truly thrive.

Wishing you a joyful Christmas and a happy New Year!
