Future Hospitality Challenge is seeking creative green tech innovations

Organized by Metropolia SmartLab, the Future Hospitality Challenge invites teams and individuals to develop new ideas for the future of hospitality.

The challenge encourages participants to create solutions that combine hospitality services, local businesses and sustainable technologies into one clear and practical solution. Everyone can take part – no ICT or tourism expertise is required.

The winning team will receive tickets to Slush 2026 and have the possibility to collaborate with Metropolia SmartLab. During the competition, participants will also receive valuable feedback and have opportunities to network. The judges include representatives from ABB, Samsung, Skanska, Omena Hotels and Elo Mutual Pension Insurance Company.

Key dates for competitors:

  • 20 January 2026 – Competitor registration closes and selected competitors announced
  • 22 January 2026 – Competitor briefing (competitors only)
  • 26 January 2026 – Mentoring session (competitors only)
  • 29 January 2026 – Final Event (open to everyone)

The competition and the final event will be held in English.

The Final Event on 29 January 2026

The Future Hospitality Challenge will conclude with a final event on Thursday, 29 January 2026, held at Metropolia’s Myllypuro Campus. During the event, the selected competitors will present their ideas in short pitches, followed by feedback from the judges. The final event will be hosted by futurist and author Perttu Pölönen.

The final event is open to everyone, and advance registration is required. Students are welcome to attend and experience the ideas and presentations live.
