- Ensure that you have a valid study right at your home institution and that you are enrolled as present for the entire duration of the studies you have planned.
- Register for Metropolia courses.
- Activate your Metropolia user ID. Once your registration has been approved, activate your Metropolia user ID. You will be able to log in to services such as Moodle, OMA online service, and your Metropolia student email. See more under “User ID and Services.”
- Log in to the OMA online service and check the instructions for the course workspace. Read more about using workspaces and communication later on the page “Course Workspaces in The OMA Service.”
- Participate in the course according to the instructions.
- When the teacher has evaluated your course performance at Metropolia, the evaluation will automatically be transferred to your home institution’s studies.
More information on registration and studies
Registration for Metropolia's courses takes place through your home institution’s student information system during the enrollment period. You must register separately for each course you plan to take. You can find the registration period, course details, teaching methods, and any prerequisites in the course-specific description.
By registering, you confirm that your personal data and study information will be shared with Metropolia. For information on data protection and the processing of personal data, please refer to Metropolia's privacy notes.
A separate quota is reserved for cross-institutional students on each course. Make sure to register as early as possible to secure your place.
Registration acceptance and Study Right
Your accepted or rejected enrollments are visible in your PSP (under Notices on the Inspection tab, in the PSP structure, and on the Enrollments tab). When you are accepted to Metropolia for the first time, you will receive an email at your home institution’s email address with instructions on how to start your studies. Save this message for future reference, as it contains information about your Metropolia student details.
Upon your first acceptance of a Metropolia course implementation, you will be granted a temporary study right. The study right is typically granted for one academic year at a time. You may only take courses at Metropolia for which your enrollment has been accepted. If your study right at your home institution ends before your studies at Metropolia are completed, your right to study at Metropolia will also end.
Cancelling the Registration
You can cancel your registration for a Metropolia course through your home institution’s PSP before the enrollment period ends. After the enrollment has closed, please notify Metropolia of your cancellation by emailing studentservices [at] metropolia.fi. In your message, include your full name and the course for which you wish to cancel your registration. If the course has already started, please contact the course teacher directly.
To cancel an Open UAS course, please email openuas [at] metropolia.fi (openuas[at]metropolia[dot]fi). For more information on Metropolia’s Open UAS payment terms and cancellation policies, please refer to Open UAS website.
As your enrollment has been approved, activate your user ID at https://password.metropolia.fi/. This can be done with banking credentials or a mobile certificate. If you have neither one, you can collect a one-time password to activate the user ID from Metropolia’s Student and Admission Services’, by presenting an official identity card to them during their opening hours.
With the user ID, you can access the following services:
- OMA portal (e.g. personal student information, course workspaces and grades)
- Email. You can log in to your e-mail at https://mail.metropolia.fi/. Please use your username and password. Emails related to the studies are sent to the metropolia.fi email. Only an automatic message sent from the system after being accepted to course implementation for the first time will come to the email address of your home institution.
- Moodle e-learning platform.
- Computers and network disks at public spaces
- Office 365 during your studies
- Metropolia Cloud services during your studies
- Helpdesk services (IT support)
- Library services e.g. e-materials
All course implementations have their own workspace in the OMA service. The workspaces are listed in OMA at the top of the front page, below the house icon. As a cross-institutional student you are automatically a member of the workspaces for the courses you have been accepted in.
Teachers use workspaces for informing students about current matters, course materials and literature. The emails from the workspace are sent to your Metropolia email address.
If some other e-learning platform (e.g. Moodle) is used on the course, information about this will be found in the workspace. The same Metropolia user ID is used for Moodle sign in, but the teacher usually needs to give a course key to the Moodle workspace if it's not an open one.
Read more about the Moodle e-learning platform in the Student's Guide!
Also follow the general announcements on Metropolia's OMA-intranet.
Virtual Studies
Instructions for the completion of 100 % virtual courses can be found from the course description and in most cases from the course workspace in OMA (requires Metropolia ID).
Course Key
If you need a course key to log in to a course, you can check it in the course workspace in OMA. If needed, you'll get more information from the teacher.
Studies are completed according to Metropolia's rules and regulations and by following the instructions of the course teacher. Feedback is collected at the end of the course. You can find information about the course content, teaching methods, and assessment criteria in the course description. More information about completing the course can be found in the course's OMA workspace.
If the course includes scheduled classes, you can check the timetable in Tuudo or Lukkarikone. You can download the Tuudo mobile app for free from the app store to your mobile device. Tuudo is available for both Android and iOS.
If you have any questions about completing the course or its content, please contact the course teacher.
The evaluation of studies follows the Degree Regulations of Metropolia and Study Guidelines of Metropolia. The teacher will assign the grade within four weeks after the course and its components, or other separate assessments, are completed.
Once the teacher has assessed your studies at Metropolia, the grade will automatically be transferred to your home institution’s study information system. You do not need to apply for credit transfer (Recognition of Prior Learning, RPL). As a student, it is your responsibility to ensure that all your credits as a cross-institutional student are transferred to your home institution.
You can also find all studies completed at Metropolia in the My Studyinfo service.
If you are dissatisfied with the assessment you have received, you may present a verbal or written rectification request to the teacher who performed the assessment within 14 days of being informed of the assessment. If you are dissatisfied with the decision on the rectification request, you can lodge a written appeal with Metropolia’s Examination Board within 14 days of having been notified of the decision. Instructions for appeals can be found on Metropolia's website.
